The Story Behind “We Are the Love"
I WROTE “We Are the Love” to express my gnawing feelings, growing in urgency and echoed by many:
Our collective future is at a key crossroads that requires each of us (or at least a critical mass) to cultivate the ability to be present as love if we are to create a brighter, more peaceful future. We are being called to feel and embody love fully through our thoughts, words, and actions. Many great leaders have expressed this message in various ways, such as Gandhi writing about being the change we wish to see or Martin Luther King teaching that "power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice.”
In crafting the song, I had initial reservations about the lyric, “lately all we seem to hear about [from our leaders] is who and what to blame.” My concern was that it could spark some to take a mental dig at their leader(s) of choice, ironically counter to the message of the song. But what if we adopt the stance that our leaders are striving for the same things we are the best way they know how? What if even the most pure-hearted have grown weary, “throwing up their hands” in desperation over our extreme polarization? This is not to side-step the need for leadership accountability or to spiritually bypass the problems facing our world. Yet how can we expect to gain any ground if we as well as our leaders are pre-occupied with hate and blame?
What if we focused our energy on developing our connection, harnessing the untapped creativity of our hearts to find peaceful ways to address our collective needs?
What if enough magnified heart power could melt the resolve of even the biggest bullies, similar to how it transformed the Grinch when he saw the Whos experience joy through simple connection and song? Could we find solutions we would never have conceived of otherwise? I believe we can.
Entities like the HeartMath Institute have illuminated the power of heart-centered living, capturing its potential well in their work. I aim to encourage as many as possible to center and live in their hearts, either through Somatasonics™ works or through the many other tools out there for heart-centered living. I hope you enjoy “We Are the Love.”
